Journal Entry for Sunday, July 25, 1999

Quote of the week goes to Mr. Angus Cleghorn, who asked me before church Sunday how I felt about Utila.  When I told him I was enjoying the island Mr. Angus said,

Who do like Utila do love their mother.

He could tell how much I enjoyed that quotable quote, so he offered me another that a friend of his was fond of saying:

Who do like fried plantain do love God.

I'm doing some theological reflection on that one!

Okay, on with the journal.  We hosted a team from Wesley United Methodist Church of Beaumont, Texas this past week. They were hungry to work
and they were hungry to eat!

The team worked hard at connecting an existing restroom facility to the sanctuary building, replacing a fence at the school, volunteering at the clinic and hosting Vacation Bible School.

This week was the first annual Carnival on Utila.  Proceeds go toward Hurricane Mitch repair.  There was something going on every evening for eight days.  (Sunday night July 18 featured an open air service that all of our congregations participated in.)  Here are some pictures of Monday afternoon's maypole and Saturday night's parade.
