    Back at the Mission House

After some 3 1/2 weeks away we returned to the Mission House last Thursday.  There were the typical problems (one toilet not working, city water off again, etc) and some new ones as well.

Washed away dock Jill and I were going to watch the sunset from the Mission House dock but discovered that the dock had washed away. The church will rebuild the dock.

The culprit responsible for destroying our dock was this large forked log which was also breaking up the sewer pipe (seen exposed here) as it was driven by the waves.  Miss Kim (the church steward) had the log towed out to sea the next day.   Exposed sewage pipe

New range The highlight of our return and some very good news... A new stove! Funds were provided by Wesley UMC of Beaumont, Texas and the mission team they led to Utila last summer. Wesley, you have our thanks and the thanks of future missions teams and the cooks who prepare for them. This range features burners that light without matches. You'll also note the lack of a board to prop the oven door closed, a big switch from the old range.

Utila experienced 26 days straight of rain prior to our return, over 50".  This caused a lot of mildew in the mission house.  Here I am cleaning the mildew off the garment bag I use for my robes. Mr. Mildew
