    Belize

I had been to Belize just briefly on my way to Utila in June.  I was happy to be able to see a little more.  Jill and I arrived Saturday; meetings didn't begin until Monday evening so we had some time to look around.

Chateau Caribbean We decided to spend some of our wedding money and stayed at the Chateau Caribbean, a hotel that had been recommended by a pastor in Belize. It was very nice and had a good view of the sea.

I was quite taken by this palm tree in the yard of a nearby house.

Jill and I checked out a lot of the stores in Belize City. Goods are cheaper than on Utila. The small sign above the doorway to this drug store reads, "Licensed to Sell Drugs and Poisons." We just bought a bottle of water. Drugstore

Altun Ha We took a tour of the Altun Ha Mayan ruins on Tuesday.  Pictured is one structure of a group of six or so.  We were permitted to climb them all. They are partially excavated at this point. After lunch we took a took a boat ride down the Belize River where we saw iguanas, crocodiles, and howler monkeys.  (My digital camera had quit working; no photos of the boat ride.)
