    The Utila Community Clinic

My first guests at the Mission House were a medical team.  They had done seven clinics in eight days down by the Honduras / Nicaragua border.  In one day alone they saw 357 people!  The translator, Lupe, returned to Portland, Oregon and my three guests (also from Portland) flew north to Utila to volunteer half-days in our clinic and get some much needed R & R.  They arrived here last Saturday and left Thursday morning.
Dr. Steve Boyer Dr. Steve Boyer awaits his first patient in one of the clinic's exam rooms.

Laurie Lloyd, who works as a paramedic in Portland, is also ready to work.  The clinic saw 20 to 30 patients each morning which is pretty typical.

July 1 was Laurie's birthday!  I didn't know how birthday cake would taste for breakfast; I hope there was one waiting the next day in Portland!

Michael Boyer, enjoying some TV Dr. Steve's son Michael was also part of the team. Here he's enjoying one of the amenities of the Mission House: cable TV!  We've got 27 channels.  This day's fare: Toy Soldiers.  (I'd already seen it.)

There are three employees on the clinic staff. Nurse Susanna, receptionist Teresa, and Michel (not pictured) who among other things responds to after-hours emergencies. Susanna and Teresa
