    Big Bight

Continuing on our tour of the island...
Gunter A part of the coast known as Big Bight.  It lies just to the north of Rocky Point (see last week's journal entry).  Pictured is friend and church member Gunter Kordovsky. Gunter is from Austria and has lived on Utila for 28 years.  At age 57 he's in excellent shape and easily out rode me on this bicycle tour. Gunter's an artisan, working in driftwood, coral, and paint and also owns a dive shop on the island. Extremely windy this day.

Big Bight is the beginning of what is called The Iron Shores.  The rock has a metallic ring to it and appears to me to be the color of iron though it has no metallic content.  I'm guessing the coloring is due to an algae.  Gunter showed me this unique place where the ocean comes up through a rock formation.
