Tennessee Team Leads Open Air Meeting at Utila and the Keys

An UMVIM (United Methodist Volunteers in Mission) team of 17 from Tennessee is doing a construction project at the church in El Pino on the coast. They released three of their members to come to Utila and the Keys for three days.

The Three Amigos: Rev. Harriet Bryan, Rev. Phil Ross and Mr. Chris Greene. The first event: An open air service Friday night at the main corner on Utila.

Reverend Phil did the preaching.

I was well pleased with the event. A good number of Methodists showed up along with some I recognized from the Church of God. And maybe there were a couple who attend no church regularly. Lots of passersby on this busy corner.

On to the Keys! Saturday morning the three took a dory out to the keys. Harriet preached that open air service; Chris led the singing. Sunday morning Phil preached and (you guessed it) Chris led the music.  They were all back on Utila by noon.

Harriet took the pulpit at the Sunday evening service on Utila. Rev. Harriet Bryan preaches at Mizpah Methodist on Utila

Chris and Phil sing "Friends" Following the benediction, Chris and Phil blessed us all with their rendition of Friends, made popular by Michael W. Smith.

The Reverend Phil Ross is senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, Dickson, Tennessee. Chris Greene serves First UMC as head of youth and music ministries. The Reverend Harriet Bryan is pastor of Erin UMC, Erin, Tennessee.

Our church had participated in an open air service last summer sponsored by the Church of God. I saw a mission team do a wonderful program of music and drama at the same corner that same month. I'm glad we got to take a turn of our own through these three.  It seems like one good way to share the gospel on Utila. (And on the keys, too!)
