    My First Utila Wedding

Stella McGhee & Harry Osteneck It was my privilege to perform Utila's first wedding of the new year (and my first wedding ever on Utila) at 11:00am on January 1. Stella McGhee and Harry Osteneck of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada had contacted me last summer to make plans for the service. They had been to Utila last February and thought it would be a nice place to be married.

In Honduras, church weddings must be preceded by a legal civil ceremony. I was present at that ceremony, which was conducted by the alcalde (mayor) at the municipality building at 4:30pm on December 30.

Present for the wedding at Mizpah Methodist Church were Harry's Uncle Henry and his family from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the best man, maid of honor and other friends as well.

In the States we say that someone who is getting married is going to "tie the knot." On Utila they say you're going to "break your neck."
